Thank You from Both of Us!

I took Kim the the Oncologist today and I am very happy to say that we were told that as far as the doctors and pathology reports are concerned all the cancer was removed and chemotherapy will be used only as a prevention of the cancer coming back.

The treatment will be done via an intravenous once every two weeks for the next 6 months which should start in about 6 weeks time as the pancreas needs to heal before they can start. He is very happy because he was told he should be able to continue to work whilst being treated.

Kim will need to go into hospital tomorrow for a blood transfusion because his hemoglobin is very low and he in anemic but hopefully it will just be a 24 hour thing.

And I also want to take this opportunity to thank you all so very much for your kind words and warm wishes and support through these very hard times.

Kim has read all your messages and also asked me to let you all know that he very much appreciates them.

I am usually a very shy person and when I started this blog I never imagined that I would meet so many wonderful friends through the wide world of the internet.

Once again we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts, you are all truly wonderful.

Helen, I'm so happy to hear that your family has received such positive news! All the best to you and Kim as you move forward through the remaining treatment. Take care!

That's wonderful news, Helen! When David had chemotherapy, he used to have it on a Thursday morning. He had his fortnightly, too. In the end, he used to have to take off two days a fortnight, the day of the Chemo, and the following day. But by Monday he'd be better and back at work. So if you can, try to organise the chemo for a Thursday or Friday, rather than earlier in the week.

Hi Helen
Dropped by re your Southern Summer of Socks registration - read down your blog - am so sorry about your husband - hope he is recovering ok and that the chemo will do the trick.
When you get a chance, can you drop us your email (the email address is on the SSS blog) so we can send you an invitation to post on the blog.

I am so glad to hear your good news. He will feel so much better in a few days after the transfusion. Make sure he rests plenty so he can heal.
Isn't the internet a wonderful thing, I feel the same way, like I have made friends that I have never met in person.

Helen, that is just the BEST news I've heard all week. I can only imagine how relieved you both must be. I hope you can relax and celebrate and just enjoy each others' company this weekend. Doing the happy dance here in Houston, Texas! Cindy

That is fantastic news!! I am really happy to hear it. Chemo affects people in different ways, so I'm hoping for very few side effects!!!

I am thrilled to hear such a positive prognosis for Ian and wish him all the best with his chemo. As 2paw says, it affects people in different ways, but the main thing is to stay positive even if feeling like absolute crap. Another thing, when I did my oncology nursing course, we were told that Coca Cola is often used to ease nausea in chemo patients. No one knows why it works, but it just seems to, so keep that in mind if Ian does suffer from it.
